Southern rokin pioneeri on USA:ssa kulttimaineessa, mutta Euroopassa se on aina jäänyt ilman kaipaamaansa huomiota. Bändin kolmas levy, At Fillmore East on yksi rokin historian hienoimpia livelevyjä. Rolling Stones lehden valitessa rokin historian parhaita kitaristeja, se nosti moottoripyöräonnettomuudessa nuorena kuolleen Duane Allmanin listan kakkoseksi heti Jimi Hendrixin jälkeen.
